Paul McCartney at his High Park farm in Scotland in 1970, where he withdrew after The Beatles broke up, angry, drunk, and feeling useless. Gradually, with the help of his wife Linda, he picked himself up again, enjoying the simple farm life and feeling energetic enough to start his career anew with Wings some years later. Kids were born, pets were adopted, surrounding lands were bought, records were recorded; his huge 1978 hit “Mull of Kintyre” was written as a thank-you of sorts to the place.

After Linda died in 1998 he was seen in the area less and less; and I believe that these days the farm, once the warm, busy centre of his life, is all but deserted.
